Samson: Nedum, The devil took a stroll at my courtyard last night, and by morning my daughter summoned me to the courtroom.

Nedu: Just maybe, you left the door open for the devil…

Synopsis

Samson wants the best for his only child, Munachimso, but does not want her anywhere near entertainment or the limelight because of his own personal experience. Will his battles with his demons prove stronger than his love for his daughter?

Ken Erics beams the light on parenting struggles from a father’s perspective and makes us wonder if any parent can be prepared enough for when their children grow up and decide to follow their own path. I think that I would have loved to ask Nedum how anyone can keep the door permanently shut. Do we stop our children from growing up? Do we tie them up and not allow them socialise or leave our sight?

Munachimso (Queen Okoye) is Daddy’s girl who just wants to sing. Ella (Yvonne Jegede)  has sacrificed her family in the past for her career and is trying to make amends, but peharps her love for her career is stronger than her motherly instincts. Betty (Ebele Okaro) is a teacher committed to not only the academic, but also the total development of her students and would go out of her way to see them maximise their potentials.

Samson (Ken Erics) has the perfect father-daughter relationship with his child until she decides to pursue her dreams. Thankfully, he has his friend, Nedum (Emeka Amakeze), a surprisingly wise and insightful character for his status, to always counsel him. Then there is Pompey (Emeka Darlington) who has discovered a diamond in the rough and would not let go.

The fact that some Nollywood sweethearts portray these characters, and how these actors bring their characters to life is the best part of this film. Though it is the first time I am seeing Queen Okoye (Munachimso), it is delightful to watch her play Daddy’s girl one second and throw tantrums the next, while being serenaded by her mellifluous voice. The movie is set in a village. There are no glam or superficial makeup or costume, so you cannot help but just focus on the story.

I like the fact that Ella’s case is not exactly resolved. Life is not a fairytale amd people do not change.  The movie is not burdened by sub-plots or extra stories. It is straight to the point and easy to follow and understand.

If you’re searching for a story with depth and you’re into musicals, then you should see You Are My Light.

Silent King/ ‘D’ King/ Battle of the Kings

NB: there are 6 parts to this movie, first is Silent King, second D King, and last is Battle of the Kings

A king declares that any of his three sons from his three wives is eligible for heir apparent-ship to the throne. This sets the ball rolling for a schemes, counter-schemes and extremely desparate attempts at snatching the coveted title ‘crowned prince’.

The opening scene lays bare the existing conflict in the royal polygamous family but then although everyone is used to “nollywood palace” movies , this is kind of different because it glues to your seat. I guess it’s because it was not only well scripted, the roles are well played out.
It’s not exactly an original story but its told in a fresh way and then the cast is an ensemble of fine and experienced actors. It’s difficult to pick up a favourite act in this movie. Everyone was ‘on point’ in playing out their roles.
Chinyere Wilfred plays the king’s first wife who determined that her only son Prince Emeka (Ernest Obi) does not loose out on “what is rightfully” his, then there’s Joyce Kalu , the se one wife who believes that her son (Mike Ezuronye) is as good as fit for the throne and would do whatever it takes, even if it means offering her daughter , (Uche Nnanna) to the most corrupt of all the elders, Chinwetalu Agu while Ebele Okaro seeps every feeling of sympathy off us as she plays the role of a pained mother burdened with the yoke of two irresponsible children, Ken and Ifunnaya (Emeka Amakeze & Chizi Alichi), and intimidation from the senior wives who remind her of her prodigals at the slightest.
At the centre of the whole drama is the ever assertive King,( Olu Jacobs) who proves to be even slyer than his cunning wives

This movie oozes of good ,scripting and directing, even though I wish it didn’t have to be six parts long but then its forgivable because it is a really interesting movie.

Beyond Love / Beyond Love Crisis

For a change, this is different.

*clears throat*
Honestly this movie had no business extending to four parts.

And if some scenes were sliced off, it may have made a very good two-part movie

Its the story of a young man (Emeka Amakeze) who was sent to the seminary to acquire sound education but decides on becoming a priest much to the chagrin of his father (Pete Edochie) who is alarmed that his only son plans would end his lineage . The father pressures his son to marry till falls in love with a girl (Ese Brodricks) who turns out to be quite unsuited for him.

For once a story got me guessing till the end and wondering how it would end.
Any story that can achieve that is really a very good one.
Trust me!

However I think that the movie went past its end and extended to something else that was unnecessary and uncalled for.
Some flashbacks were not necessary!
Some scenes should have been deleted.
Honestly!

Peter (Emeka Amakeze) explains why his parents sent him to the seminary so much that by the end of part two. I’ve almost crammed that line…
”My mother wanted me to be a priest but my father wanted me to have the best of education so they sent me to seminary …”

Phew!

Apart from his girlfriend’s ‘I love Peter’, that is the most repeated line in the movie ….
*rme*

COSTUME!
COSTUME!
How dare you allow someone wear oversize shoes… Like OVERSIZE shoes ….???
That is unforgivable!

Dont even know who is the worst offender, the costumier who failed in her job, the character who agreed to wear OVERSIZE heels or whoever it was in postproduction who should have deleted that scene….

Feels good to see Pete Edochie in a movie and I guess its safe to say that Ese Brodricks is an actress to watch out for.

I hereby present myself an award for patience.

Finally I got to see the 5&6 parts of Hour of Salvation.
There’s not much here other than that we finally got to know who raped Ozioma and how they fare eventually.

If you ask me, it was way too obvious from the beginning … Especially as I remember the nightmare in the first part.

Trust Tontoh Dikeh to ber do justice to a role… But the character is excessively larger than life… That’s beyond born-again if you ask me.
Like seriously! How many Pastors’ wives even dress like that?

Thumbs up to Ken Erics! I wonder how he gets those facial expressions? He just always does justice to a role…

It is boring already , like very cliche that Yul Edochie would be related to Ken Erics, like a brother or a friend and one would be the devil himself and the other a saint.
Like they are some of sort of siamese twins badly in need of a separation surgery. 😱

Good story all the same but I don’t understand what happened to the wedding scene…. It was all over the posters but we dont get to see any of it at all…

I hope no one is even conceiving another sequel.
